Together we will offer a more comprehensive consumer protection service, in a partnership that already incorporates Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Dudley Trading Standards Services.


The Shipshape list was set up almost ten years ago by Solihull Trading Standards and has been a true trailblazer for consumer protection. It enabled consumers to choose a reliable business, to carry out their home improvements. They would be safe in the knowledge that if things should go wrong, there would be someone to turn to for free help and assistance.


As we follow in the footsteps of the people who designed and implemented the Shipshape list, we at No Rogue Traders Here would like to acknowledge our gratitude to the council, Trading Standards and the dedicated Shipshape team for all of the groundbreaking work they have done over the years.


The new system being offered by No Rogue Traders Here will not significantly change any structures already in place. You will still deal with traders who have passed a whole host of checks and have been thoroughly vetted and interviewed. Instead, we will simply be increasing the level of consumer protection available, in order to make it an even more comprehensive service.


In addition, Shipshape's many loyal customers and professional members, will be happy to learn that they can now have a choice of how they appoint a business, to carry out work for them. Since we at No Rogue Traders Here have taken over the work of Shipshape, on behalf of Solihull Trading Standards, we have committed ourselves to providing a service that will do justice to our predecessors. How can I be sure that the trader I get through No Rogue Traders Here is who they say they are and that they won’t rip me off?
Every business on our books has been rigorously checked by both Trading Standards and our team. We’ve checked their personal identity, credit rating, bankruptcy history, professional qualifications, licenses and insurance. We even have a word with, suppliers and other customers with whom they’ve worked. This Trading Standards backed initiative means you really are in safe hands!

 

Do you have home addresses for all your businesses?
Yes we do. Every NRTH business must also provide us with proof of their home address and/or their presence on the electoral register.

 

But sometimes a business may not have debts while the owner/s have large debts?
All business owners on our books undergo personal credit checks. This is in addition to the company also being credit checked. We are licensed to perform consumer credit checking and if a company owner has CCJ's totalling over £1000 that have been registered within the last 3 years they will be refused entry onto our network. This also applies if a registered owner of a business is bankrupt and has not yet cleared a full 3 years since being discharged. We are here to provide you with not only good quality but also creditworthy businesses.

 

Is the No Rogue Traders Here service really completely free?
The No Rogue Traders Here consumer protection program is completely free to the consumer. It is free to register with us and free to use the services we offer.

 

How long does it take to find the right professional for my job?
As soon as your job is posted on our site we'll contact local, vetted, Trading Standards passed professionals to quote for the work. The businesses will then get in touch with you. This system is, generally, quite fast - you could get a professional to your door before the end of the day - at worst you will certainly receive a call from a business or businesses that are interested in quoting for your work by the end of the day. Incidentally once you've let us know what type of service you need, you'll then be given the contact details of the businesses who will be interested in quoting for your work, so if you need to you can call them straight away.

 

What if I am not happy with any service/work done by a NRTH trader?
Call us immediately. Customer satisfaction is of the highest priority. We will get on to it straight away and, if we need to, we will arrange to inspect the work ourselves. We will try to arrive at a solution that is acceptable to both parties. Where there is a difference of opinion about the standard of work or the price charged, we reserve the right to appoint a third party business taken from our list of approved businesses to provide an independent opinion to inform our decision making process. Businesses who are members of our consumer protection program have all agreed to be bound by the decision of Trading Standards should any dispute with a customer reach this stage. Your statutory rights are not affected.
